Door Nub was invented by Ryan Hudson-Peralta, a father, husband, international speaker, and visionary product designer from Detroit, Michigan. Born missing hands and unable to walk, Ryan has dedicated his life to overcoming challenges and inspiring others to do the same. With over 25 years of experience in design and a passion for accessibility, Ryan’s unique perspective and determination have driven the creation of Door Nub.
Ryan’s journey is a testament to his resilience and creativity. Despite the physical challenges, he has excelled in his career, designing user interfaces and products since 1995. His work spans across various industries, but his true passion lies in creating solutions that enhance accessibility for individuals with disabilities. As the founder of “Look Mom No Hands” and Equal Accessibility, LLC, Ryan mentors children and adults around the world, demonstrating that limitations can be transformed into strengths.

The Journey
The inspiration for Door Nub stemmed from Ryan’s personal experiences and the challenges he faced with closing traditional doors. Driven to find a better solution, Ryan created a simple yet effective product that enables individuals with limited mobility to close doors effortlessly. Interestingly, the concept for Door Nub originated from an invention Ryan made as a child. It initially looked quite different and has evolved through several iterations to become the highly effective design we have today.
Ryan’s dedication to accessibility and inclusivity inspired him to prototype Door Nub in his home workshop. Through countless iterations and feedback from the disability community, he perfected the design to ensure it met the highest standards of usability and durability. The result is a product that not only solves a common problem but also empowers users to live more independently.
Ryan’s goal was to create a product that could be installed even without hands. He wanted to ensure that Door Nub could be easily attached to doors using a secure adhesive, eliminating the need for screws or complex tools. As with all the products Ryan designs, he rigorously tests them himself to guarantee they are practical, reliable, and truly beneficial to the users.
